Notes for SAMUEL GOODE:
As per Letter of GrGrandson John H. Good dated March 30, 1909
It stated Samuel was born 1790 in Augusta County, Va. Also he
Married Elizabeth Dettimore January 13, 1813 in Va.; This information
cannot be proven at this point.
It was told to Grandchildren that Samuel was from Germany; actually
his parents probably came over to the USA from Germany. Samuel
served in the WAR 1812, he Enlisted July 29, 1814 and was Discharged
July 06,1815. He was in Captain Robert Erwin's Company
Virginia Militia.
Samuel had an address of Westminister, Ohio (Allen County). At the
Time of his death he wasn't living with Arabella; but was living with
One of his own children in Highland County, Ohio. Arabella Sent in a
Pension dated March 4th, 1879 which showed his last prior payment
was December 4th, 1878. She stated to the Government Samuel came
to live with her on her own farm and they lived together happily for
more than fifteen years. She stated that Samuels children persuaded
him to come and live with them in the Fall of 1874 to get his pension.
She stated that there was no ill feeling or difficulty or trouble between
him and her at the time of his departure. Also the voucher that was
obtained from B.F. Kelly at Rainsboro, Ohio (Highland County) at the
house Samuel died in, B.F. Kelly's wife was Samuel's Grandaughter.
Samuel's Pension Certificate# is 4994.
T.F. McCoy was the party that took charge of Samuel's body & buried
him. T. F. McCoy was from Rainsboro, Ohio.
Prior to the war of 1812 Samuel lived in the Western part of Virginia.
